Chemicals manufacturer W.R. Grace & Co. plans to close its Albany plant at the end of the year, laying off 95 workers. The Ohio company notified Oregon officials of the pending closure in a letter Sunday but didn't give any explanation for the shutdown. It said the layoffs are permanent and will continue through June. The Albany factory makes specialized chemicals used in medicines, auto belts and hoses and plastic food wraps, according to W.R. Grace's website. Company representatives in Albany referred questions about the factory closure to the Ohio company's spokesperson, who is out of the office this week.
